Work to start on Heavitree Road bus improvements

Improvement work to enhance bus services on Heavitree Road in Exeter will get underway next month (February).

The scheme, which will start on Monday 2 February, involves the construction of a new traffic island and installation of a new set of traffic signals at the end of the outbound (eastbound) bus lane between Grendon Road and Polsloe Road/Barrack Road.

Devon caravan fire sparks smoke alarm call

Caravan owners are being encouraged to install smoke alarms after a family escaped from a fire which destroyed their mobile home at a caravan park near Sidmouth.

Two fire crews from Sidmouth attended the incident at Kingsdown Tail caravan park, Salcombe Regis, early in the morning of 20 March.

The family was asleep inside the caravan and the alarm was raised by a passer-by who saw smoke coming out. The occupants were unaware of the fire at the time as there were no smoke alarms installed.

New Government strategy launched to encourage travelling by bike or on foot

A blueprint to encourage more walking and cycling is being launched by the Government today (Sunday 27 March).

The new strategy has a clear ambition that by 2040 getting around by bike or on foot will be the natural choice for shorter journeys, or as part of a longer journey.

It includes ambitions to double cycling, reverse the decline in walking, reduce the rate of cyclists killed or seriously injured and increase the number of children walking to school.

RGB Building Supplies, which was established in 1850, is asking the local community to help it collate a record of its 166 year history.

Now operating out of 16 branches across the region, including one on Alphinbrook Road in Exeter, RGB wants to create an archive of its rich past, detailing the people who worked for the company in years gone by as well as what was going on in the wider community throughout this period.

Gemfest 2016 this Sunday

Gemfest is back for its fourth year of festival fundraising tomorrow (Sunday March 27).

The last three events saw over £15,000 raised for Hospiscare and The Brain Tumour Charity.

Organised by a local brain tumour ‘survivor’ Gemme Wensley and her friends, the daytime event (11am-4pm) is packed with family activities, while in the evening we’ll be hosting a variety of live music and entertainment from 6pm. Pavilions Teignmouth gets ready for official opening

An official opening date for the £5million new Pavilions Teignmouth has been announced for Monday 4 April.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3pm and will be carried out by Teignbridge District Council’s Leader Cllr Jeremy Christophers and Margaret Davidson, Chair of the Pavilions Board of Trustees.
