Driver dies after crashing into wall

The driver of a car involved in a collision near Teignmouth on Tuesday 19 April has died.

Oliver Patrick Daniel Galvin, 39 and from the Birmingham area, died shortly before 4am on Thursday 28 April 2016 at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

Officers were called to the scene of the collision shortly before 1am following reports of a single vehicle collision on the A381 Newton Road, near Bishopsteignton.

A silver Suzuki Ignis collided with a stone wall near the Metro Motors car sales garage and the vehicle rolled causing significant damage to the car.

Driver Oliver Galvin, who was the only occupant, was located by a passing member of the public trapped within the vehicle.

He was freed from the car by the fire service and initially taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital with life-threatening injuries before being transferred to Derriford Hospital.

The A381 to Teignmouth was closed to enable the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit to carry out an investigation of the scene. The road was reopened at around 9am.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who witnessed to the incident or saw the silver Suzuki on the A381 prior to the collision to contact police.
