A long-lost Elizabethan manor house that swapped hands between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War has been ‘unearthed’ by archaeology students and volunteers.

West Exe students volunteer with St Petrocks cooking meals for rough sleepers

Year 9 students Zack, Daisy and Maisie from West Exe School , part of the Ted Wragg Trust , cooked a hot homemade meal for the homeless clients of St Petrocks this term.

Originating as a community project providing humanitarian response to rough sleepers in Exeter, St Petrocks officially opened its doors in December 1994, having been given permission by the Central Parish of Exeter to adapt two thirds of St Petrock’s church for use as a homeless centre. FORCE runners gather ahead of the 2024 Great West Run

FORCE raises record total from Great West Run

FORCE Cancer Charity is on course to raise nearly £70,000 from this year’s Bishop Fleming Great West Run.

Money is still coming in from sponsorship but FORCE is confident of smashing an original target of £60,000.

The charity, which offers free support and advice to anyone locally affected by cancer, had a record number of more than 300 sign-ups for the 2024 half marathon around the streets of Exeter.

Yesterday, ahead of World Milk Day (1 June) and because of Devon’s long history of dairy farming, two giant PETA “babies” holding signs proclaiming, “Cows’ Milk Is for Baby Cows” and “Not Your Mum? Not Your Milk!” descended on Exeter’s high street.

They highlighted how unnatural it is to drink the milk of any animal past weaning age – let alone that of another species, like a cow who was forcibly impregnated and whose baby was taken from her – and encouraged the people of Exeter to go vegan. PETA supporters also handed out free samples of Alpro’s strawberry soya milk.

D-Day role highlighted in 80th anniversary exhibition

Exeter Airport’s vital role in supporting the allied D-Day invasion of Europe 80 years ago is being highlighted in a two-day public exhibition at the airport.

The D-Day 80th anniversary event is being hosted by Chris Wiseman and Jerry Bird on 5 and 6 June, from 11am to 7pm on both days in the airport terminal. Car parking is available for just £2 per day in Car Park 4, and the airport’s Cove Café will open on both days.
