Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner candidate is calling for an immediate review of Tony Hogg’s decision on his Middlemoor move. Tony Hogg decided just a few weeks ago to move his office less than one mile to what will be newly refurbished premises inside the Police HQ at Middlemoor. The cost of this is undisclosed, but is believed to be approximately £400,000. The lease on his existing premises that were inherited from the old Police Authority expires in November 2016. Devon in top 10 per cent of councils for cutting truancy

Devon has some of the lowest figures in the country for the amount of children who are persistently absent from school.

New Government figures show that Devon County Council is in the top 10 per cent of local authorities for its low absence.

Of 150 local councils responsible for education in England, only 13 have better figures than Devon.

The amount of children who miss 15 per cent or more of school time stands at 2.9 per cent in Devon.

In the South West and in England overall, the figure is 3.7 per cent.

Walk to work and support FORCE

FORCE Cancer Charity has launched Walk to Work Week - a campaign to get us all out of the car and off the buses and trains for at least one day later this month.

It will run between Monday April 25 and Sunday May 1 to raise money for the Exeter charity that offers face to face support for anyone locally affected by cancer.

All Exeter children will be offered free swimming lessons before they finish primary school, Exeter Labour have pledged.

Exeter Labour thinks it's important that young people learn to swim as early as possible - not only to ensure they are safe and confident around water, but also because it gets children active.

Body found believed to be missing junior doctor Rose Polge

Police believe the body of a woman found in the sea off Portland in Dorset could be that of missing Torbay Hospital junior doctor Rose Polge.

A Devon and Cornwall Police statement said: "On Friday the 1st April, a woman's body was recovered from the sea east of Portland Headland, Dorset.

"Police are currently working on the belief that the body is that of 25-year old missing person Rose Polge, from Torquay.

"Devon and Cornwall Police are working with Dorset Police and the Coroner’s Office on this matter, and await the results of the formal identification.

Help tackle flood risk in Devon

The Environment Agency has announced that it is looking for enthusiastic individuals to get involved in managing flood risk in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee is one of 12 committees across the country that make key decisions on local priorities for flood and coastal risk management.

Taser numbers reviewed in bid to protect communities

The number of taser trained police officers across Devon and Cornwall is to be reviewed with as part of a new project.

Devon and Cornwall Police are seeking public feedback on plans which could see the number of taser carrying officers across the Force increase over the next two to three years.

There are currently 530 taser trained (non-firearms) officers in the Force, but under new plans, this could increase to around 1,000 by 2018.
