Name that beaver!

A Devon-based conservation charity is looking for help from the public to suggest names for its new beaver mascot.

The beaver in question is a human-sized beaver costume made to promote the work of Devon Wildlife Trust with England’s only known wild beaver population on the River Otter in East Devon.

The costume, which has striking teeth and tail has been produced with support from South Devon-based Cofton Country Holidays, which is itself a David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme Gold award winner.

Luxury watches stolen in Exmouth burglary

Police in Exmouth are investigating a burglary that occurred in the Salterton Road area on the evening of Saturday 14 May 2016 between 10pm and 11pm.

A number of wrist watches, jewellery and cash were stolen from the property.

The watches and jewellery are distinctive and of high value. Police are asking anyone who has been offered for sale any of the items listed below, or anyone who has seen anyone with such items, to contact them.

Local auction houses, antique dealers and jewellers are asked to be especially vigilant.

More trains between Exeter and Exmouth

Great Western Railway (GWR) is running extra trains on Sundays between Exeter Central and Exmouth, from 15 May. Trains will run every half hour through most of the day on Sundays throughout the year, instead of the previous hourly service; with a number extending to Exeter St Davids. All services will call at Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham and Lympstone Village stations. Morning trains to Exmouth and afternoon trains back will also call at Polsloe Bridge, providing more opportunities for a seaside day trip to Exmouth. Pioneering Exeter technology is making our roads safer and cleaner

An Exeter-based motor vehicle firm is launching pioneering new technology to the consumer market which could reduce road traffic accidents by up to 60%.

Lightfoot is a driver improvement system originally developed to help businesses cut fuel costs and CO2 emissions but is already helping fleets cut their accident rates.

The Lightfoot team have now held talks with Exeter City Council, and the Exeter City Futures team is considering how to use the technology in some of the Council’s fleet vehicles.

Temporary lights overnight on Bridge Road

Temporary traffic lights will be introduced overnight on Bridge Road in Exeter this evening (Tuesday 17 May) from 11pm until 5am tomorrow morning.

Over the past few weeks a process known as hydro-demolition has been undertaken on the Countess Wear Flood Relief bridge, where high pressure water jets have been used to cut away the concrete but leave the reinforcing steel intact. Examination hearings for Devon Minerals Plan

Examination hearings to consider objections to the new Devon Minerals Plan will take place at County Hall in Exeter next week.

The Plan underwent consultation last Autumn, and proposes sites to achieve the supply of minerals to 2033.

Hearings will take place from Tuesday 24 May to Friday 27 May, starting each day at 10am.

A government inspector, Mr Andrew Freeman, will conduct the hearings to establish the soundness of the Minerals Plan. Participation in the hearings is limited to people that responded to last year’s consultation and have already requested to take...

Ticket-holders for Radio 1's Big Weekend at Powderham Castle near Exeter have just six days left from today (Monday May 16) to book their transport in advance of the event.

Festival-goers have until May 21 to pre-book transport that’s been specially laid on for the event.

Park and rides, shuttle buses and drop-off/pick-up points have been arranged to get people safety to and from Powderham while ensuring minimum impact on residents and those who may be visiting the area to enjoy the long weekend in this part of Devon.

Devon’s finest were honoured by the Queen last Wednesday, 11 May, when they were presented with a British Empire Medal.
