Man dies after car overturns in East Devon

A man has died after his car left the road and overturned in a field at Honiton this morning [27 April].

Emergency services were called at 8am after his vehicle was found in a field off the old A30 near to the showground at Fenny Bridges.

The driver, thought to be aged 50 and from Torquay, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed and police await formal identification.

Overnight temporary lights on Bridge Road

Temporary traffic lights will be introduced overnight on Bridge Road in Exeter on Thursday 28 April.

From 11pm on Thursday until 5am on Friday morning, traffic lights will be in place on a short length of the road over Countess Wear Bridge.

This will provide the contractor with temporary working space to access the upstream wall of Countess Wear Bridge with a “cherrypicker”, allowing an Ecologist to install bat roost exclusion measures.

Bats are roosting in areas of the bridge masonry which would be disturbed by the proposed construction of the new cantilever bridge...

Grants for Exeter mobile home owners

People living in mobile homes in Exeter are being given the chance to apply for grants to make energy improvements in their homes.

Exeter City Council is working in partnership with Wessex Energy to provide grants of £2,000 to qualifying Exeter mobile or park home owners. If the cost of works exceeds £2,000, applicants are able to apply to Wessex Resolutions CIC, a not for profit lender, for a loan to make up the difference.

Dog beach ban starts on May 1

East Devon District Council has improved information and signs advising visitors and residents about the seasonal dog bans on some areas of our beaches.

This year, for the first time, the council is using temporary stencils at the beach entrances so that the ban areas are clear to everyone. The seasonal ban lasts from May 1st to September 30th each year.

Researchers at the University of Exeter’s Penryn Campus are involved in a pioneering project to safeguard Europe’s smallest swan, which has won support from Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Pen Hadow and Sir David Attenborough and a swathe of businesses, charities and individuals.

Flight of the Swans will be the first ever attempt to follow the migration of the Bewick’s swan from the air. Driver seriously injured in East Devon crash

Emergency services attended a serious one-vehicle collision on the old A30 at Honiton.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called at 8am today (27 April) after a car left the carriageway and ended up upside down in a field close to the showground.

The male driver of the car has sustained serious injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The old A30 road is closed in both directions between the Fenny Bridges junction and the Honiton junction.
