Have you heard of Social Prescribing?

I ask this as recently we had a conversation during a dementia training session about local community resources and I brought the term into conversation.

There were several attendees working in the health and social care sector who had not heard of this important community role leading me to write this brief overview.

Tributes paid to East Devon Honorary Alderman Barry Willoughby

East Devon District Council Leader Paul Diviani has led the tributes to Honorary Alderman Barry Willoughby who died recently.

Mr Willoughby was elected to the District Council in May 1984 and represented Exmouth Littleham Urban Ward.

He was the Council’s Chairman for two years from 1995 and served on a number of Council Committees including Planning, Policy, Housing, Exmouth Town, Tourism and Transportation and Environment.

In 2015 the South West Group of the National Service (Royal Air Force) Association celebrated its tenth anniversary.

During the anniversary year a varied programme of activities was enjoyed by members - from guest speakers and trips, to ceremonial occasions.

£2m grant to reduce major aquaculture diseases

The University of Exeter and the Centre for the Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences (Cefas) are leading on a £1.97M BBSRC-Newton Fund project to develop and apply new molecular biology techniques to reduce the impact of major diseases in aquaculture for the improvement of the livelihood of small-scale farmers in India, Bangladesh and Malawi.

From Exeter to Bordeaux - on bikes!

A group of intrepid Exeter Chiefs supporters are raising money for the Exeter Foundation by cycling from Exeter to Bordeaux.

The 485 mile route of the Exeter Rugby European Cycle Challenge will take 6 days to complete, and began at the home of the Exeter Chiefs, Sandy Park today (Sunday 10 January) and finishing at the Stade Andre Moga to watch the Chiefs take on Bordeaux Bègles in the European Champions Cup.

TONY Beard, the Wag from Widecombe, recently received a gift from the Dartmoor Folk Festival Association (DFFA), which organises the annual three-day Dartmoor Folk Festival each August.

Tony has been the compere for the Music Hall held on the last night of the festival for the past 35 years.

In recognition of this, the festival association commissioned South Zeal artist Kari McGowan to paint a watercolour to convey thanks and appreciation of everything he has done.

Police concerned for missing Scott McCafferty

Police are appealing for help to find missing Scott McCafferty, who has gone missing in the Taunton area but has links to Exeter.

Concern is growing for Scott, aged 33, who was reported missing on 4 January. He was last seen leaving Tesco in Castle Street at about 3.05pm two days earlier (2 January). He was walking in the direction of French Weir in the town.

He has not been seen since.

Scott is white, about 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build with mousy/brown short hair and a full red/brown beard. On his left arm he has a tattoo of a Phoenix.
