Exeter funeral home makes eggs-tra special donation

A funeral home in Exeter has helped bring Easter joy to the local community and children in need after donating 205 chocolate eggs and ‘bags of hope’.

The treats were gathered through a collection donation drive organised by the team at Co-op Funeralcare Exeter on Cowick Street, in St Thomas Shopping Centre, with some of the Easter eggs donated to children living in temporary accommodation in the city.

A quarter of a million households and businesses now have superfast broadband

More than a quarter of a million households and businesses can now benefit from superfast broadband as a result of the multi-million-pound Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) programme.

The key milestone was achieved as engineering teams continued on schedule with the huge job of laying thousands of miles of optical fibre cable and installing hundreds of roadside fibre broadband cabinets.

Heritage Volunteer Fair in South Devon

Teignbridge District Council is organising a heritage volunteer fair.

A striking exhibition of wood engravings by renowned engraver Hilary Paynter is the latest artwork to adorn the corridors at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The ‘Age of Enlightenment’ exhibition, which opened to the public on the 2nd July, explores the subject of age and ageing. The body of work has been commissioned by the Baring Foundation, the Arts Council and Devon Guild of Craftsmen, and can be viewed by patients and visitors on level 2 of the hospital between template B and C.

Exmouth Leisure Centre gets Sport England cash boost

Exmouth Leisure Centre is set for a major transformation thanks to £300,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Improvement Fund.

The facility is one of 19 projects across England to share in £6.5 million of National Lottery investment from the latest round of funding, which is helping clubs refurbish their facilities.

New outdoor festival launches with most iconic trail

A new outdoor festival with one of Britain’s toughest trails is promised to be one of the highlights of the South west festival.

The running event is to take place in the heart of Heddon Valley in North Devon this September 23-25.

There will be a mixture of trail running challenges, with three distances to choose from which are a full off road marathon length race, a half marathon event, and a 10km challenge.

South West urged to face freezer fears

Research released as part of Food Safety Week 4-10 July has shown 64 percent of people in the South West have unnecessarily thrown food away in the past month.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) are urging the public in the South West to face their “freezer fear” to tackle the issue of food waste.

FSA’s research showed that 33 percent of people interviewed said it is dangerous to freeze cooked meat, and 41 percent believe food becomes unsafe to eat while in the freezer.
