The Bags of Hope initiative, run by The Salvation Army, aims to spread joy and kindness during the Easter period. The Exeter team spotted the project and launched a call-...

Brexit uncertainty dampens activity in SW housing market

Uncertainty fuelled by the EU Referendum has resulted in a marked drop in activity in the South West housing market, according to the RICS UK Residential Market Survey, June 2016.

New buyer enquiries declined significantly across the UK in June, with 36% more chartered surveyors nationally reporting a fall in interest - this is the lowest reading since mid-2008. The South West fared somewhat better however, with just 4% more respondents reporting a decline in buyer demand (as opposed to a rise). Nevertheless, this does follow a particularly steep decline during May.

Exeter has been placed on the World map when it comes to allotments, people in the city have been finding out.

The Devon capital intrigued a group of students from the United States so much they hopped on a plane and flew over here to find out more.

The 20 students from Arizona State University (ASU) have just wrapped up a short stay in Exeter, interviewing allotment holders as part of a study abroad course supported the Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives at ASU. In the few days they have been here, they have carried out some 200 surveys.

The founders of a charity that has encouraged literally hundreds of thousands of people to sing and play music are to receive English Folk Music’s highest accolade at a star-studded event in Exeter in July.

In fact, Wren has spread its wings further afield to touch communities in the wider South West – but Devon is and always has been its heartland and it’s where, on a participant session basis, it reaches...

Dog walkers can now put their dog waste in a number of litter bins around the city.

Previously, bagged up dog poo had to be placed in the red dog bins located around Exeter. But in a move to make things easier for dog owners and dog walkers, standard litter bins can now be used to dispose of the waste.

It will go to Exeter’s energy-from-waste facility which can treat up to 60,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste every year. The poo, along with anything else that can’t be salvaged, still creates valuable energy which gets fed back into the National Grid.
