Work to start on Heavitree Road bus improvements

Improvement work to enhance bus services on Heavitree Road in Exeter will get underway next month (February).

The scheme, which will start on Monday 2 February, involves the construction of a new traffic island and installation of a new set of traffic signals at the end of the outbound (eastbound) bus lane between Grendon Road and Polsloe Road/Barrack Road.

Local cafe could be Britain’s best

Local cafes around the area are vying for the title of Britain’s Best Cafe and everyone will get the chance to vote for their favourite. The national competition is being organised by SIG Roofing and its local branch, based in Exeter, formerly known as South West Roofing, will be supporting the cafes in their bid to win the title. When votes are counted at the end of October this year, 14 regional winners will be announced, with the national winner confirmed at the presentation event at the end of November. Dance performance depicts link between rocks and the body

A special performance by a dancer at the University of Exeter’s picturesque campus is one of the events on offer as part of a project examining the links between the human body and the geological world.

The free and public exhibition also includes video installations and pictures by British and overseas artists depicting ways in which the human body encounters and connects with rock. University climbs student satisfaction rankings

The University of Exeter has climbed places to 11th in the National Student Survey rankings of student experience.

The University has been rated best in the South West, and has also retained second place within the 24 members of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive institutions, based on an average across all question category scores.

The overall score at Exeter was 85.9 per cent, reflecting the outstanding student experience offered at one of the world’s top 100 universities.

The South West Heritage Trust has received a new Excellence Award for its pioneering work in transforming archive services in Devon.

The Archives and Records Association, the lead professional body for archivists, conservators and records managers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, is making the Excellence Awards for the first time. The South West Heritage Trust has received the award for Record-Keeping Service of the Year.

An ambitious plan to restore the historic Stover Park in Newton Abbot to its former glory is hoping to attract vital funding.

Woman's body found in the Exe

A police investigation is underway after a woman's body was found in the River Exe.

The discovery was made near Exe Bridges at about 6am today.

Officers have cordoned off the path near where the body was found.

Exeter expert helps bring online courts nearer to reality

New online courts for civil cases designed to help make the justice system more user-friendly could be introduced, thanks in part to the work of a University of Exeter academic.

The courts would be for “low value” cases, designed so people can navigate the process of managing disputes more easily and cheaply.

It is hoped online courts will ensure delivery of faster and fairer justice for users by making better use of technology and modernising working practices. Disputes would be resolved early without a judge having to become involved.
