Devon County Show launches first‑ever Community Growing Hub

The Devon County Show is proud to announce the launch of its first‑ever Community Growing Hub, a major new feature for 2026 designed to inspire visitors of all ages to get growing, get gardening, and get connected. The Hub will be hosted by horticulturalist and community growing advocate Kenny Raybould, who will lead a team of volunteers offering hands‑on advice, and practical support throughout the three‑day show.

The fourth quarter of 2016 has seen a boost of confidence in the South West with hiring intentions of +3%, according to Manpower, the world’s workforce experts. The Employment Outlook in the region has risen by two percentage points from last quarter. The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey is based on responses from 2,102 UK employers. New bridge will extend cycle route

A new £500,000 bridge will be lifted into place over the A382 near Moretonhampstead later this month.

The A382, south of Moretonhampstead, will be closed from 8.30am on Thursday 22 September while the structure is installed at Steward Wood.

Devon County Council has funded the scheme which will extend the Wray Valley Trail cycle route from Moretonhampstead to Bovey Tracey. 'Dragons' Den' for Devon charities

Charity representatives in East Devon have the chance to take part in a unique bidding process for funds in front of a panel of “dragons” next month.

The event, which will be held at the Beehive in Honiton on Wednesday 26 October, is an opportunity for groups to pitch their ideas for funding – based loosely on the format of the hit BBC programme. Submissions need to be made by 2 October.

Charities that are invited to the event will have to answer questions from the panel, demonstrating how their projects will benefit people in the area.

Police have charged seven men with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in Exeter.

A police investigation was launched after reports of a stabbing at a property in the area of Lower Summerlands and Clifton Road, Exeter on Wednesday 6 April.

The following men have all been charged with attempted murder:

William Toohey aged 19 from Liverpool

Matthew Henney aged 20 from Liverpool

Liam O’Brian aged 21from Liverpool

Body found in River Exe

The body of a 25-year-old man was found by rowers in the River Exe, at Exe Bridges in Exeter, on Sunday 11 September at around 8.30am.

Officers and paramedics attended, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of Connor Skinner, has been informed.

Connor, from the Exeter area, was reported missing to police on Wednesday 7 September.

Officers carried out extensive enquiries and searched the local area but were unable to locate him.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and DKMS wants to highlight that many blood cancer patients needing a blood stem cell donation for their survival never find a perfectly matching donor. DKMS says that the chances of finding a match could increase if more people registered as potential blood stem cell donors.

Police are concerned for the whereabouts and welfare of 52-year-old Gregory Stephens who was last seen in the Torbay area in the morning of Saturday 10 September 2016.

He has links to the Torbay and Teignbridge area. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket & jean, 5’9, heavy build having an unkempt appearance with greying hair to below the ears. If any one has information that can assist police in locating Mr Stephens call 101 quoting log 0365 10/09/16.
