Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Merger Between Exeter College and Petroc

Exeter College and Petroc have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger that would see two Devon colleges come together to form a new College Group.

If approved, the new organisation, the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group (ENDC), would serve more than 16,000 learners across Devon, employ nearly 2,000 staff and have a combined turnover exceeding £100 million.

TV channels to beam Devon to global audience

In just three weeks time a TV global audience of millions will tune in to see Devon at its best when the Tour of Britain returns to the county.

In what will be a worldwide showcase for the county on September 9, viewers will be able to watch three hours of live coverage of the Devon Stage of the Tour of Britain.

This year both ITV4 and the BIKE Channel UK will show the race live, while ITV4 will also air a one-hour highlights programme each day.

City bag an away victory

Superb strikes from Ryan Harley and Jake Taylor gave Exeter City their first points of the season as they beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 at the Wham Stadium.

The Grecians took the lead with 25 minutes to go, but were pegged back by a goal from former player Arron Davies, before going on to net the winner through Taylor two minutes later.

Rugby clubs unite to remember fallen heroes

Fallen heroes from the Devon and Ulster Regiments, which served at the Battle of the Somme, are to be remembered ahead of tomorrow’s pre-season rugby friendly between Exeter Chiefs and Ulster Rugby.

A new exhibition is being set up for the day at Sandy Park Stadium, the home of the Chiefs, to remember 3,237 Allied servicemen from the Devon and Ulster regiments who paid the ultimate sacrifice on the first day of battle on July 1, 1916.

For those of you enjoying watching the Olympics you may have seen Exeter School alumna Sara Orchard commentating. The school looks forward to welcoming Sara back to school for Speech Day in September.

Sara joined the Sixth Form in 1998 where she studied Economics, English and Theatre Studies before leaving in 2000 to read Sports Science at Sheffield Hallam University. RGB charity golf day raises over £2,000

RGB Building Supplies recently raised a fantastic £2,035 for its nominated charity, Prostate Cancer UK, during a golf day held at Bovey Castle in association with Exeter City FC. Bats in East Devon should see a better future thanks to the generous response to a Devon Wildlife Trust fundraising appeal – but more support is needed for the target to be met.

A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office as unseasonably strong winds - gusting at up to 60mph - are expected to batter Devon.

A spell of unseasonably strong southwesterly winds, accompanied by heavy, blustery showers, is expected to reach the South West UK during the early hours of Saturday, moving east across many parts of England and Wales through the day.
