Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Merger Between Exeter College and Petroc

Exeter College and Petroc have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger that would see two Devon colleges come together to form a new College Group.

If approved, the new organisation, the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group (ENDC), would serve more than 16,000 learners across Devon, employ nearly 2,000 staff and have a combined turnover exceeding £100 million.

Beer's historic shelter gets a makeover

A popular historic wooden shelter in Beer’s Jubilee Memorial Ground has had its old rotten support posts swapped for eight rustic replacements, made from locally grown sustainable timber.

East Devon District Council’s Property Services and Countryside teams, assisted by a number of East Devon Conservation Volunteers (EDCV), painstakingly sourced and stripped the Douglas Fir posts, which came from Holyford Woods.

A Barnstaple man has been handed an eight month sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting to selling fake DVDs, phone covers and clothing online.

Appearing at Exeter Crown Court, Shaun Ryan, aged 34 of Wool Barn Road, pleaded guilty to six charges of selling and possessing counterfeit goods.

The case was brought by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service after a test purchase of a ‘Game of Thrones’ DVD box set from Mr Ryan’s eBay shop, ‘ryanzenterprise’, was found to be phony.

New website for Exeter’s RAMM

From Thursday September 1, the website for Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) will be mobile and tablet friendly.

As well as a cleaner, more contemporary look, the redesign will also let visitors select what they see on the homepage and what updates they get.

Woman on bridge closes M5

Police closed a section of the M5 for two hours today causing long delays for motorists.

The road was closed in both directions, southbound between J26-27 and at J27 northbound due to concern for a woman on the motorway bridge, and motorists’ safety.

The road was re-opened at 1.30pm and police reported the woman to be safe and well.

Avon & Somerset Police are warning of delays due to backlogs of traffic clearing and have advised anyone planning to travel towards Wellington from the north or south to delay their journey.

A Devon businesswoman has won a competition to name a life-sized rhino, which is standing outside Exeter Central Train Station for the next two months.

Karen Bryant of Select Appliances in Plymouth submitted the name 'Paladin' as part of a contest held by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service and the Buy With Confidence Trader Approval scheme.

Police searches will continue in Exminster in connection with yesterday’s arrest of a 30-year-old man in Somerset on suspicion of terrorism offences.

A man was arrested at 12.20pm by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15), supported by colleagues from Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall Police, on suspicion of being involved in the preparation for acts of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act.
