One of Devon’s hidden gems will be open to the public for the first time in its 250-year history as part of a national heritage event.

Newly refurbished Rockbeare Manor, just outside Exeter, will open its historically important grounds and Grade I listed house from noon until 4pm on Sunday, September 11, as part of the 2016 National Heritage Open Day.

There will be a parkland nature trail, activities for the children, tours of the house...

Poltimore House and Grounds are open with free entry on Sunday 11th September from 11 - 4pm.

There will be a children's trail and quiz (50p entry), an archery demonstration with the chance to try it for yourself for a small fee and Tudor dancing. Come and see for yourself all that has been achieved at this historic Exeter house.

A record number of organisations from across the county have signed up for this year’s Devon Cycle Challenge, which returns next month.

More than 140 workplaces have already registered to take part in the free challenge which will run throughout September. That’s 50 more organisations than last year, when over 1,500 people supported the campaign, and there is still plenty of time to sign up before Thursday 1 September. The 30-year-old man arrested on Wednesday 24 August in Somerset on suspicion of terrorism offences remains in custody.

Searches at an address in Exminster and a wooded area in south Devon are ongoing.

The man was arrested at 12:20pm by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15), supported by colleagues from Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall Police, on suspicion of being involved in the preparation for acts of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act.

Searches are now being conducted by the Metropolitan Police...
