Dementia UK shares the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for ahead of free clinics in South West

Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Hosted by Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses, the clinics are open to anyone impacted by dementia, offering life-changing support to families and individuals in the area. Appointments can be booked via Dementia UK’s website here .

Heritage project brings former City players together

A special gathering of former Exeter City players will take place at the home match with Cambridge United this Saturday (22 October).

The event is being held thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund backed project on the history of St James Park. The project is being led by the University of Exeter in partnership with the Exeter City History Group set up by the Supporters Trust.

Around 50 former players are expected to attend and will be sharing their memories with the project team as well as being presented to the crowd at half-time.

Second chance to see iconic Shrouds of the Somme

THE iconic installation commemorating soldiers who fell on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, which captivated millions when it was displayed in Exeter, is to be shown again.

After hundreds of requests to extend the exhibition, organisers are bringing the breathtaking display to the grounds of Bristol Cathedral where it will be on show from 11 to the 18 November this year, marking the Centenary of one of the bloodiest battles in history and remembering all 127,751 British soldiers who lost their lives.

Chilcotts Auctioneers summer show competition winner has been announced.

The competition asked visitors to the Chilcotts show stand at the Honiton and North Devon Shows to take a guess at the price an auction lot would achieve at auction.

The lot, an early twentieth century miniature chest on stand, was a tricky one to estimate. However, Paul Benson from Taunton got very close with a guess of £225. The chest was sold at auction in the September sale for £220.

Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez and Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer, the National Police Chiefs' Council Lead on Modern Slavery, have welcomed today’s news that the Home Secretary is backing their bid for extra resources to tackle modern slavery. Amber Rudd has announced that the Government is giving an extra £8.5 million nationally to help police fight this crime. This new response, led by Devon and Cornwall, will provide over 50 dedicated analysts, specialists and investigators. Artwork announced for upcoming film, The Darkness of the Moor

One Big Mop Productions has announced the winner of a competition to create a work of art for its forthcoming film The Darkness of the Moor.

The film is a horror / mystery set on Dartmoor and based on its surrounding legends.

The competition was created in association with The Prince’s Trust and South West Art Workshops. The artwork is a truly stunning piece created by Mark Chilcott, and depicts The Great Storm of Widecombe-in-the-Moor when the devil supposedly attacked Widecombe church in 1638.

Honiton residents urged to use Minor Injuries Unit

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has become the new provider at Honiton Minor Injuries Unit (MIU).

The Trust is running the service, based at Honiton Community Hospital, for a 12-month period. The MIU was previously run by Northern Devon Healthcare Trust. Highly qualified nurse practitioners with expertise in treating a whole range of minor injuries will staff the unit.

Ram-raid burglary at Banbury's in Tiverton

Police were called following reports of the alarms going off at the Banburys Store in Gold Street, Tiverton, at around 4.15am today (18 October).

It appears that a saloon-type car was used to force the doors to gain access to the store. People wearing balaclavas managed to steal vast quantities of perfume before fleeing the area in the same vehicle up Bampton Street.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would also like to hear from anyone who has come across any discarded items in the area including perfume and balaclavas, or who have been offered any perfume for sale....

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision that has left two dead and a further two in hospital.

Emergency services were called following reports of a collision on the A358 Chard Road near Tytherleigh, just outside Axminster at 3.30pm on Monday 17th October.

The collision involved a Citroën Xsara Picasso and a Ford Transit Luton van; the Citroën was heading towards Axminster and the Ford Transit was heading in the opposite direction.
