Supermarket Morrisons is to cut prices on meat, veg and fruit this week.

A spokesman said it would be reducing prices on nearly 160 products by an average 12 per cent on the items, in the latest round of its Price Crunch campaign. The latest move comes just a month after Morrisons trimmed the price of more than 1,000 products, including toiletries and seasonal fruit and vegetables, by an average of 18%.

Retailers believe that food price inflation is unlikely to arrive until the autumn when the supply of UK-grown fresh produce reduces and they are forced to buy more food...

Now is a good time to apply for an allotment in Exeter, the City Council has said.

Waiting times for allotments in Exeter are at their lowest levels for many years and plots are becoming available at sites across the city.

Since the City Council changed the way it manages allotments more people than ever have been able to enjoy tending to their own plot.

The number of people waiting for an allotment in Exeter reduced from 804 in the summer of 2015 to just 131 in February.

The reduction has been down to a quicker turnaround of vacant sites and the dividing up...

New service to help East Devon residents recycle more to be phased in

A trailblazing new service to help East Devon residents recycle more of their waste than ever before will be phased in across the district from February next year.

Government plan to ban microbeads

Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom has announced plans to ban the sale and manufacture of cosmetics and personal care products containing tiny pieces of plastic, commonly known as ‘microbeads’.

Each year billions of tiny beads end up in our seas from a range of products such as face scrubs, toothpastes and shower gels. These beads build up in the marine environment and can be swallowed by sea life, including fish and crustaceans.

The ban follows the successful introduction of the 5p plastic bag charge – which has led to six billion fewer bags issued this year – and is the...

East Devon District Council says news that Exeter Deaf Academy is in the frame to take over the Rolle College site in Exmouth came as a surprise to many at the authority, including some who learnt of the deal through the media first.

The Strategy also looks at changing the behaviour of residents and visitors and increasing enforcement for things like littering, dog fouling and graffiti.
