Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Police support National Counter Terrorism Awareness Week

In support of National Counter Terrorism Awareness Week, which will run from Monday the 28th of November to Sunday 4 December, Devon and Cornwall, and Dorset Police will be taking part in a week of action which will include providing advice on how to keep safe, and encouraging people to report any concerns.

Rusty Pig’s mobile feasting wagons scored a major success at this year’s Tar Barrels in Ottery.

The two wagons, based in Mill Street during the revels, raised a total of £2015 for the Ottery St Mary Carnival Committee.

Rusty Pig owner, Robin Rea said: “We knew this would be a busy year as Tar Barrels fell on a Saturday – the town was heaving.

“Having two wagons instead of the single one we had last year meant we could serve many more revellers than before.”

CCTV appeal following pub burglary

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at The Galleon Inn, The Strand, Starcross.

The burglary occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 5 November 2016, between 3am and 3.40am.

Entry was gained by the rear door and after a tidy search of the property, £260 cash was taken from a till along with a distinct old cigar pot containing £200 lottery syndicate money and a red book.

A safe which was bolted to the ground was also taken and contained £2,500.

Devon Cycle Challenge shows people Love to Ride in the county

More than 1,600 people from across Devon took part in the second annual Devon Cycle Challenge.

The friendly competition between workplaces, which took place throughout September, also saw organisations in Devon competing on national leader boards.

Over 125 businesses and organisations from across the county took part in the competition which aimed to introduce as many new people to cycling as possible. During the month-long challenge, participants collectively cycled more than 182,000 miles – the equivalent of cycling around the world over seven times!

Gritters out in force as temperatures plummet

Devon’s army of gritters will be out in force tonight (Monday 28 November) as forecasters predict temperatures to plummet below freezing.
