Youngsters check out newly laid football pitches in Exeter

Young footballers in Exeter have been given a sneak preview of newly laid grassroots football pitches that they will play on this coming season.

Youngsters from Heavitree Youth Football Club were given a feel of the newly created playing surface at Bromhams Farm Fields. The Under 11s side will be one of the teams playing on the three pitches when the season starts next month.

Two play areas in Teignbridge have become the latest ‘smoke free’ zones in a bid to encourage residents and visitors to stub out smoking where children play.

Play areas in Hennock and Little Week Close, Dawlish join existing ones at The Den, Teignmouth, Courtenay Park and Decoy Country Park, both in Newton Abbot in trialling a smokefree code which asks that children be allowed to play in a smoke free environment.

A short film telling the story of Exeter Cathedral has been nominated for a BAFTA Children’s Award. “An Introduction to Exeter Cathedral” was announced as a nominee by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) yesterday, ahead of the awards ceremony which takes place in November. Devon to host temporary respite facility for young refugees

Devon is to host a temporary Home Office respite facility for vulnerable young refugees arriving from Calais.

Emergency accommodation for up to 70 young people leaving the refugee camp in Calais has been secured in Devon ahead of its imminent closure by the French Government.

The UK Government has made clear its intention to transfer children and young people from the camp.
