Local authorities fund Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving to help get local people into work and support regional employers to secure the drivers they need

Police appeal following armed robbery in Exeter

At around 9.20pm on Monday 5 December 2016 a man armed with a knife, estimated to be around 10” in length, entered the Spar shop on Magdalen Road in Exeter, where he threatened staff and took cash from the till.

The man then left the shop and ran along Magdalen Road, believed to be in the direction of the Mount Radford pub.

There were three members of staff in the shop at the time. All are safe and no-one was injured. No customers were in the store at the actual time of the incident.

Reindeer in the city for charity Christmas event

Devon Wildlife Trust will be celebrating Christmas with its popular annual family event at the charity’s Cricklepit Mill, in the heart of Exeter. The converted medieval mill and garden will be open from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 11 December for the event. Road repairs programme announced for Pothole Action Fund

Devon County Council has announced the list of roads which will be repaired using the £1.95 million of capital funding allocated by Government within this financial year’s Pothole Action Fund.

More than 200 repair schemes will be undertaken on approximately 75 miles of road across the county using the Pothole Action Fund which the County Council received from Government earlier this year. It follows the Department for Transport’s announcement last week that Devon will receive £3.192 million from the Pothole Action Fund in the next financial year.

Christmas charity initiative raises cash for homeless

A chance to make a Christmas wish and help raise money for the homeless is on offer to local people, thanks to a festive fundraising initiative from a city charity.

Princesshay will host the Farms for City Children Tractor Appeal on Saturday 17th December, with their vintage Massey Ferguson 165 as well as entertainment from local musicians and performers to bring Christmas cheer to visitors in the city.

Board Members of Rolle Exmouth Ltd (REL) last week said goodbye to the college campus they had fought tirelessly to preserve for future generations.

It was a double victory for national middle distance athlete and racing champion Molly Canham after her outstanding efforts on the track saw her crowned overall Teignbridge’s Sports Personality of the Year 2016 and Junior Sportswoman of the Year.

Exeter night shelter gets go-ahead

There’s good news for people sleeping rough on the streets in Exeter this winter, with a night shelter set to open.

The shelter in Market Street, Exeter, is expected to open at the weekend and will be run by Julian House as part of the Safe Sleep initiative.

The green light was given by Exeter City Council’s planning committee, where an application for a change of use for the premises was last night granted (Monday 5 December). The building will now be used for rough sleepers to shelter overnight from harsh winter weather, up until the end of February.
