Forecasters have issued a yellow warning of rain for Devon.

Rain will become heavy and persistent at times during Tuesday and into Wednesday. The rain will also be accompanied by southerly gales and possibly severe gales for a time, especially along Irish Sea coasts.

There is a serious risk of flooding and the potential for disruption to travel through the period.

The Met Office five-day forecast is as follows.

Today:

After a bright start in the east, cloud and some patchy rain and drizzle will move eastwards through the day. A few heavier bursts are possible over the hills. Colder and clearer conditions will then follow later. A breezy day. Maximum Temperature 15°C.

Tonight:

It will be dry, cold with light winds through most of the night. However, cloud and strengthening winds will arrive from the west by morning. Minimum Temperature 6°C.

Tuesday:

A dry and chilly start but quickly becoming a wet and windy day with gales in exposure. The rain will be heavy at times, especially over the hills. Maximum Temperature 13°C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rain, heavy at times, is likely to linger through much of Wednesday. Brighter, but somewhat colder conditions then returning on Thursday. Further mild, wet and very windy weather for Friday.
