When two of ginger cat Sadie’s owners moved house, the series of changes proved too much for the mature moggie who now needs a home with space to call her own.

Ten-year-old Sadie has been in and out of Cats Protection’s care since 2017. Through no fault of her own, the change-averse puss lived happily with two owners in succession who unfortunately both needed to move house. After adjusting to one move, the second became more difficult to tolerate and now Sadie can sometimes show her feisty side while trying to settle in new homes.

The deputy manager at Cats Protection’s Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre, Jackie Phipp, explains: “Gorgeous Sadie is looking for a patient and experienced owner who will understand her quirks and sometimes unpredictable nature. Her background means that she has learned that change is likely at any moment and it has left her feeling uneasy.

“Once Sadie is in a steady routine in a familiar environment she learns to trust and bonds with those around her, transforming into a friendly cat. However, her new owner will need to keep in mind that Sadie doesn't always want hands-on attention – she likes interactions to be on her terms and will swiftly let you know if she has had enough.”

The centre’s staff and volunteers think Sadie would benefit from the freedom and peace created by being an only pet in a home with no children. Owing to her difficulty settling into new homes, it is likely she would be best suited to having her own outdoor space initially, such as a summerhouse or garage area, so she can get used to her new surroundings and then join the main house when she is ready.
