Landlords who rent homes privately are invited to a free event which can help them run tenancies more effectively.

Teignbridge District Council is putting on another Landlord Open Evening which brings experts together under one roof so local landlords have information and help to run, manage or end tenancies.

The free landlords open evening is on Monday 14 July from 5pm until 9pm in Old Forde House, Brunel Road, Newton Abbot.

The event, held last year with great success, is specifically designed for landlords and those thinking of letting a property. Landlords will be able to attend a choice of eight mini seminars presented by expert speakers covering a range of topics of importance to landlords.

There will also be an array of public and private sector organisations exhibiting on hand to provide advice and answer any questions. There is no need to book, just turn up on the night, admission is free. Refreshments are provided thanks to the sponsorship of local exhibitors.

Cllr John Goodey, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive spokesman for Housing and Planning, said: “Teignbridge recognises the part private landlords play towards meeting local housing need. However, being a landlord is not straightforward and recent growth in the market means that we now have more people renting property than ever before. We want to ensure that landlords are aware of what they need to do to protect themselves and their interests, as well as the safety and wellbeing of their tenants.

“Even experienced landlords can have gaps in knowledge, so we’re holding an event to get people up to speed with a number of topics, including property tax planning, immigration checks, how to end tenancies, problem tenancies, financial help for empty homes, welfare reform updates plus discounted or free home insulation offers in the CosyDevon scheme.

“This is an opportunity for landlords to attend four mini-seminars and to talk about their issues with experts. We also have a wide range of organisations exhibiting who will be on hand to give advice and answer questions.”

Those who are unable to attend but are interested in additional landlord training, may wish to consider attending a landlord training event. For more information contact Teignbridge on 01626 215425 or email housing@teignbridge.gov.uk
