Buckets and spades are at the ready!

Four of Teignbridge’s resorts and beaches have been recognised by national and international award schemes.

Dawlish Warren has achieved the prestigious Blue Flag award for the 16th year running and Teignmouth Town Beach, Coryton Cove at Dawlish and Ness Cove at Shaldon have all won high-profile Seaside Awards, formerly known as Quality Coast Awards.

The internationally renowned Blue Flag is presented to those beaches that pass the very strictest of criteria for environmental management, visitor facilities, cleanliness and clean bathing waters, meaning that residents and visitors to the resort can expect a top quality experience.

The independently assessed seal of approval is awarded to beaches which achieve very high quality standards excellent cleanliness, safe access and appropriate signage.

Visitors to the newly awarded sites are not only assured of a great day out at some of our best loved beaches but can have confidence that their visit will be both safe and enjoyable with all beaches having to maintain high standards of management, cleanliness and safety.

For many people going to the beach also means a dip in the sea. The water quality at all award winning beaches meets the required European Union standards, with the water quality at Blue Flag beaches subject to even tougher tests, meeting the very highest international standards.

Cllr George Gribble, Teignbridge Executive Spokesman for Communities, Recreation and Leisure, said: “The sight of the Blue Flag or Seaside Award flying at our beaches is something we are really proud of, and they give residents and visitors reassurance that our seaside resorts are safe, clean and have great facilities.

“Retaining these awards is a real testament to our hard working leisure and resorts staff. We hope visitors will come to Teignbridge and spend time exploring our beaches and local facilities.”
