The Stagecoach transport group has donated £10,000 to help relief efforts in the Philippines.

The transport group has made the donation to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Stagecoach has also agreed to match up to £40,000 of funding raised by its employees.

The group employs 35,000 bus and rail employees in both the UK and North America.

Stagecoach Group Chairman Sir Brian Souter said: “The scale of the human tragedy caused by this disaster has touched all of our hearts and everyone wants to respond to the tremendous need of people in the Philippines.

“We know many of our employees are involved in fund-raising efforts for those affected. As well as making a charitable donation, Stagecoach has also pledged to match pound for pound the fund-raising efforts of our people.”

Hundreds of thousands of pounds a year go to help health charities, education campaigns and local community projects.

Stagecoach regularly matches funding in charitable activities as well as give support with free transport donations.

The group has invested between 0.5% and 1% of the profits from its transport operations in the UK and North America in good causes in the last few years.
