Almost a year on from its last Sprint Challenge, Princesshay have once again invited South West Athletics Academy to bring its portable track right into the heart of Exeter’s shopping precinct, this time for a very special Sport Relief Sprint Challenge.

The event will be held on Saturday (22 March) from 10am onwards and will see the colourful red and blue track laid out so that shoppers of all ages can come and try their hand at sprinting and jumping.

Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Director said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with South West Athletics Academy to bring Sport Relief to Exeter shoppers.

"The portable track is an exciting way to bring athletics right into the heart of the centre, enabling everyone to try their hand at running in a fun way.

"We are delighted that local businesses have supported this initiative by donating prizes, so whether you are 4 or 80 you will be cheered along in support of Sport Relief”.

South West Athletics Academy’s Director Sonya Ellis said: “I’m passionate about getting people of all abilities into athletics.

"The Princesshay management are very forward thinking – they realise that city centre shopping should be an experience for all ages to enjoy and our portable track is such an eye catching centre piece.

"People, who normally wouldn’t think of giving running events a try, come over and take part because it’s about participation and fun.

"This year we have something new as well in the shape of a portable High jump bed for people to try and see how high they can jump. We are also delighted to be joined by Street Motion who will be giving demonstrations of free running and parkour and giving people the chance to try it out.  We want as many people as possible to come along and try the events – it’s such a fantastic way to get involved in Sport Relief. ”

The aim of sprint challenge is to provide an opportunity to test your speed over a 20m distance using a high tech speed gate system. Although there will be prizes for the fastest people in different age categories, the Academy is looking primarily to attract new people to athletics and raise money for Sport Relief. There will even be a chance to experience the challenge in a racing wheelchair, something which proved highly popular at the last event.

The Sprint Challenge has its own sport relief donation page which can be found here or people can donate on the day.

The portable track will be located outside Debenhams throughout the day.
