Social Media brings good karma to local charity

Less than two weeks after local charity See the Future had a collection pot stolen from a shop in Honiton, Devon’s social media users have come to the aid of the charity and helped it win a charity donation from the Exeter Cleaning Company.

Exeter Cleaning regularly runs competitions and giveaways on their Facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/exetercleaning and has a tradition of ensuring that local charities benefit as well. Their latest giveaway was a £100 donation for a local charity.

Online supporters of See the Future, which funds research into conditions causing devastating sight loss, rallied to the charity’s cause and beat off competition from supporters of other local charities to bag the £100 from Exeter Cleaning.

Exeter Cleaning’s Mark Walker said “It’s great that See The Future has won the donation after what they had to go through. When we’ve done these giveaways, we let the public decide who gets them and, when I heard what happened to See The Future, I suspected that our Facebook and Twitter followers would come to their rescue! They’re a nice bunch!

“As a company, we are very aware of our place in the community. We have always believed in making sure that we support the local community as they support us. It’s nice that that same ethos has helped See The Future and the great work they do.”

See The Future’s founder, Leanne Greengrass thanked Exeter Cleaning saying “the support from Exeter Cleaning has been outstanding and through people voting for our charity we have had a lot of exposure – it has really got us noticed. The sad thing about our charity pot money being taken is that, when it happens, it can make you think there aren’t any decent people out there but this proves there are! I want to thank everyone for their support - if it wasn't for them the charity wouldn't be where it is now.”
