Rotary in the South West Peninsula have agreed a partnership with the South West Youth Games Trust to support their events through to the 2019 season.

Rotary have previously supported the Games in 2015 and 2016 and have renewed their support for 2018 and 2019.

The Games are the largest youth community sports event in the region and are celebrating their 20th edition this year.

The annual multi-sport event was launched as the Devon Youth Games in 1999 and has since expanded across the South West to include teams from Cornwall and every Devon District competing in 20 sports.

Around 10,000 young people aged 8-18, both able-bodied and disabled take part in the journey towards the Games each year.

Chris Broadbent, Chief Executive, South West Youth Games Trust said: “Rotary have been invaluable supporters and friends of the Games for a number of years and we are delighted to renew that bond.

“Our mission is to create a happier and healthier South West by delivering inspirational and innovative sport and physical activity experiences to young people across the region.

“Rotary clubs have not only recognised the positive impact our work has on communities across Devon and Cornwall, but have been great champions of our locally and regionally. We are very grateful for their ongoing support in helping us make a real difference to the lives of young people.”

“Promoting youth activities is one of the key areas of focus that Rotary clubs look to undertake and by continuing this great partnership with the South West Youth Games Trust is just one way we are able to do so within Devon and Cornwall” said Darren Hands, Public Image Chairman of Rotary in the South West Peninsula.

“We are delighted to build on this already well established relationship which can only benefit youngsters throughout the South West”.
