Record entries for Exeter Regatta
A record number of rowers from across the south west will be competing on Saturday (12 July) at the annual Exeter Regatta.
Paul Wilson, Exeter Regatta Chairman, said: "This year we have more entries than we have ever seen, it reflects just how popular rowing is across the South West.
"At the event we have especially strong crews in mens and ladies fours and the sculls including from Exeter Anna Newton who has trialled for the GB squad and Ray Lowry, an amputee from the marines who is on a fast track pathway to the Para Olympics. Spectators are guaranteed to see some great competition throughout the day.
"2014 is also a special year for the regatta as Exeter Rowing Club are celebrating their 150th anniversary.
"We will have more races than ever and free painting activities for children with a regatta theme.
"In addition the rowing club are also celebrating at Henley Royal Regatta with a row past on Saturday with a mixed Exeter crew aged from 17-70.”
Mike Wills, Managing Director of Pathfinder Homes said: "'The Regatta at Exeter Quay is a great day out for the family and this year is a very special occasion because of the anniversary. Parents and youngsters can be inspired by the action and families can also relax in the cafes and bars.
"Pathfinder is the main sponsor of this fantastic event, and we will also be in attendance at the Regatta with one of our beautiful lodges on show. So if you are in the area, make sure to come down for a day full of excitement."
The regatta is an annual event attracting hundreds of competitors of all ages, and is a great day out for all the family. The fun starts at 10.30am and finishes at 6.30pm.
Over 100 sprint races take place over a 400 metre course along the River Exe. This provides close, exciting racing all day with eights, coxed fours, pairs, quads and single and double sculls.
This year there will be an additional family friendly activity brought by Arts Wave Devon - a free children’s pop-up arts workshop themed to the regatta, which will run between 11am-4pm with artists James Lake and Monica Shanta Brown.
