Pets at Home provides vital donations to Exeter Cats Protection

Pets at Home customers have raised more than £4,000 to allow Cats Protection’s Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre to provide vital care for cats in the local area.

The adoption centre is part of the UK’s largest cat welfare charity which was founded in 1927. Since 2009, the Exeter Centre has rehomed more than 9,700 cats, with an average of 600 cats coming into their care every year.

As one of the registered charities Pets at Home supports, the Cats Protection centre has benefitted from the pet care specialist’s VIP Club Lifelines scheme for almost 10 years.

The Lifelines scheme which, along with the VIP Club, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, sees points generated from purchases made by members converted into vouchers that local charities can spend on whatever they need from their nearest Pets at Home. In recent months, the vouchers have been used by Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre to purchase supplies that will keep the cats in their care entertained and stimulated, including puzzle feeders and Kickeroo toys.

Jackie Phipp, deputy manager of Cats Protection’s Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre, said: “The VIP Club Lifelines initiative has provided much needed and greatly appreciated support, allowing us to continue helping Exeter’s most vulnerable cats.

“From keeping rescue cat Barney entertained with a puzzle feeder to ensuring stray Jet was kept occupied with various toys and catnip while receiving treatment for dermatitis, the Lifelines vouchers have been invaluable to allow us to give the cats in our care the specific love, support, and attention they need.”

In the last decade, Pets at Home has donated more than £20million through the VIP Club Lifelines scheme, supporting charities and organisations across the UK that work with pets and the people who benefit from time spent with them.

Amy Angus, Charity and Community Manager at Pets at Home, said: "The team at Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre do a phenomenal job in caring for and rehoming cats, and we know their support is more important than ever in the current climate.

"We are so pleased that over the past ten years, together with our VIP Club customers, we’ve been able to help charities like these that are working tirelessly to look after those pets that find themselves without a family for whatever reason that might be.”

Members of the Pets at Home VIP Club, which is free to join, enjoy benefits including exclusive discounts on everything from food to health products, as well as helpful support and advice. Customers can sign up online and will receive a voucher for 10% off their next in-store shop as part of their welcome pack.

The vouchers distributed through the VIP Club Lifelines scheme complement the work of the Pets at Home Foundation, an independent charity established by Pets at Home in 2006 as part of its mission to create a better world for pets and the people who love them.
