Overnight closures planned for Bridge Road

Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed overnight next week (w/c Monday 13 January) while repairs are carried out to the Swing Bridge.

The repairs will aim to resolve a mechanical issue that has developed with the Swing Bridge and has increased the time it takes to open and close the bridge.

The road is due to be closed from 7pm until 7am from Monday to Thursday next week, starting on the evening of Monday 13 January.

Friday night (17 January) has also been provisionally booked for an overnight closure, but it’s hoped that this will not be needed if work can be completed before then. However, the work is weather dependent.

The overnight closures will also be used to enable high friction surfacing to be added to the deck of the Swing Bridge.

During the closure, the diversion route will be signed via Topsham Road, Alphington Road, Marsh Barton and the A379.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be available throughout, but they are advised to use the footpath/cyclepath.
