Teignbridge residents continue to play their part in improving street cleanliness and increasing recycling rates, as the latest monthly winners of the Council's 'Operation Stack' campaign are announced.

Mr Colin Williams from Kingsteignton was drawn as January’s winner and joined by Dawlish resident Mr Church as February’s lucky recipient of a recycling goody bag, containing a set of recycled wine glasses, a left overs recipe book and various food waste reducers.

Launched in November, Operation Stack has been successfully encouraging residents to stack their recycling boxes and food waste containers on collection days. So far over 900 thank you cards have been issued to addresses by the refuse and recycling team to residents who stack boxes well. In contrast, there has been a 53% average reduction in those highlighted as not-stacking, following checks on the same area, on the same day over consecutive weeks.

Mr Williams said: “Thank you very much for the prize and this has been the topic of conversation at the Royal British Legion club. I hope this will bring further awareness to the importance of recycling within the community.”

With the spring season this brings a fresh opportunity for everyone to be even more environmentally friendly and play their part in helping to keep the district cleaner simply by stacking recycling boxes. Residents will also be receiving Teignbridge's new recycling guide, which will be delivered to homes at the end of March.

Cllr Kevin Lake, Teignbridge District Council's executive for environment services said: “Congratulations to our latest monthly winners and thank you to our residents who continue to play a significant role in helping to keep our streets clean by stacking their boxes.

“It is encouraging to see the number of thank you cards being issued and our communities understanding the importance of stacking correctly, for a cleaner and greener district.”
