Local shops and good transport links top the list of priorities for home hunters in Exeter when it comes to choosing where to live.

Five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes has examined the amenities that people rank the most important when it comes to making a location their home.

Shops were named the number one priority with transport links ranked second in terms of importance and medical services third on the list. The top five was rounded off by good schools and public spaces or parks.

David Wilson Homes is bringing new homes to Exeter at Minerva and Harts Meadow, and sales director Nicki Reid said that housebuilders are always keen to ensure their new developments match what buyers want, and this survey reinforces the process that David Wilson Homes follows when identifying the best locations for new developments.

“We always carefully consider every location before making the decision to build new communities and this study highlights what is really important to people of all ages,” said Nicki. “Despite the increase in internet shopping this highlights how important it is for people to live close to shops and of course good transport links are a key factor in any new development.”

She said the survey also highlighted the importance of amenities depending on the age of buyers. “Fitness facilities are important with younger people but this decreases with age and not surprisingly medical facilities are more of a priority as people get older.”
