Local radio controlled flying club to feature at major hobby show
Blackdown Radio Control Flying Club is set to star at a major regional hobby show taking place next month.
Based on the disused World War Two runway near Smeatharpe village - between Honiton and Taunton - the team will wow the crowds at the South West Model & Hobby Show with their range of scale model radio-controlled aircraft and 3D aerobatic performances.
The displays will feature top pilots across the UK, whose demonstrating include model aircraft can be used as glider tugs; towing up radio-controlled model gliders with radio-controlled model planes.
Kyle Millett, 26, from the club said that they will also give visitors the chance to take to the controls and have a go for themselves. He said:
“The show is all about learning new hobbies, and there is nothing like the thrill of learning to control and fly some of the best radio controlled aircraft in the country.
“So come and pay us a visit to see a mixture of planes, helicopters and control line aircraft flying. We promise you won’t be disappointed.''
The displays by Blackdown Radio Control Flying Club will form part of the outdoor action at the South West Model & Hobby Show, which takes place at the Bath & West Show Ground, Shepton Mallet over 3-4 May.
Show organiser Nigel Stevens says that visitors can learn and try out a huge selection of hobbies. He said:
“Imagine the precision modelling and intricate attention of model boat and railway layouts set alongside huge radio-controlled gas turbine jets, robotics and 3D modelling, and that’s the show. There really will be something for everyone.
“And if any of these hobbies grabs your interest, you can pick up all the advice and equipment from the experts at the show.”
Very much a family event, the show will also offer steam railway rides, a funfair and other kids’ activities.
Adult tickets are from £13, U15s are £5, and Under 5s are free. There are also two-day and family ticket packages available.
