It’s Beginning To Look Like Topsham’s Best for Christmas!

Love Topsham has unveiled plans for the town’s Christmas celebrations - and once again they’re set to be amongst the best in the south west.

Festivities start on November 24 with the Christmas Lights Switch On at the town’s Matthews Hall. From 4.30pm there will be a samba band in illuminated festive outfits plus unique large-scale puppetry to entertain crowds.

At 5pm the lights go on and a procession heads to Topsham Quay, led by a festive Tuk Tuk and the Town Crier Rogan Meadows. At the Quay there will be carols, samba dancing and an appearance by Santa, ahead of the lighting of Topsham’s very biggest Christmas Tree close to the estuary.

That same evening - from 5pm until 8.30pm, November 24 - Love Topsham’s annual Festive Marketwill take place in St Margaret’s Church, with over 20 stalls showcasing arts, crafts, food and drink from Exeter’s finest producers.

“The Switch On, Procession and Market have become real crowd favourites in Topsham, both for residents and visitors. We’re expecting a record attendance this year, especially as we’re campaigning for people to shop local for the best gifts from our independent shops” explains Ned Hoste, chair of the Love Topsham community interest company.

“The remarkable thing about our celebrations - from our Christmas lights to the festive market and then other events in December - is that they’re all organised by volunteers, and funded by residents and businesses who want  our special place to have extra sparkle for the holiday season” explains Ned.

After the November 24 Switch On there are plenty of other Christmas events in the town.

On Tuesday November 28 there is a late night shopping evening, with Topsham’s 50-plus independent shops, businesses and eateries - the largest collection of independent shops in the Exeter area.

In early December Love Topsham is running Best Dressed Window Competitions for shops and residents and on December 13 there’s the annual Kids Christmas Trail where local children drop in to many of the town’s shops to pick up festive treats.

And throughout the build up to Christmas and right into the New Year Topsham’s Spectacular Christmas Lights will illuminate the High Street, Fore Street and Ferry Road.
