Registration for Hospiscare’s Men’s Walk 2019 is now open! The popular Exeter event, which is taking place on Saturday 16 March, promises to be the best yet, with the opportunity to watch the England v Scotland game on huge LED in the Men’s Walk exclusive Hospiscare Six Nations bar.

Past years’ Men’s Walk events have been a sell-out success, so budding walkers are advised to register early to guarantee a place. The event is once again kindly sponsored by Wilkinson Grant.

As before, the eight-mile route will start at the Double Locks canal-side pub and follow the picturesque riverside Exe Valley Way as far as Miller’s Crossing Bridge where it will cross the river and then return to the Double Locks. There will be plenty of entertainment and refreshment stops along the way.

On return to the pub the walkers’ efforts will be rewarded with a free pint and a hot pasty. Two marquees will be set aside for their exclusive use to watch the day’s Six Nations tournament matches on large LED screens. First up is the Italy v France match at 12.30 pm and then at 5 pm England play old rivals Scotland at Twickenham.

To avoid being disappointed, why not take the opportunity to sign up to the Men’s Walk with Hospiscare at their exciting launch event? The Exeter Brewery, associate sponsor of Men’s Walk 2019, will be opening their fully licensed Tap Room and gift shop, giving would-be participants the chance to visit this fascinating location and sign up on Sunday 16 December between 1.00pm and 4.00pm.

The Leicester Tigers v Racing 92 game will be televised from 1.00pm. RFU referee Luke Pearce, who referees regularly in the English Premiership and at international level, will then be sharing his insights into a day in the life of a referee.

Walkers who register at Hospiscare’s launch event will automatically be in with a chance of winning tickets to an Exeter Chiefs game in the Early Bird draw.

Next year, Hospiscare aims to beat the record fundraising total of £62,000, raised by more than 900 walkers who showed their mettle by completing the walk in driving snow and sleet in March this year.

Organiser Sharon Ewart said: “This year, our amazing band of walkers smashed the 2017 fundraising total, raising half as much again and helping us to care for 700 patients living with a terminal illness and their families every day. It was a great ‘make a difference’ day, and it would be wonderful if we could beat the total again next year.

“So, granddads, dads, sons, brothers, uncles and friends – get together and prepare to have a great time. The camaraderie is always amazing, so don’t miss out, get signed up early.

“Don’t worry if you can’t make it to The Exeter Brewery on 16 December. You can register online at www.menswalkexeter.co.uk, or call Hospiscare on 01392 688020. Updates on the event are available on the Hospiscare Facebook page.”

Individual entry is £25 while a team of four is £80. All walkers (who must be aged 12 years or over) receive a Men’s Walk 2019 T-shirt, a pint (or soft drink) and a hot pasty.

Hospiscare is a local adult hospice charity, providing high quality care and support to people with any type of terminal illness, and those close to them, in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. A gift to Hospiscare in your Will helps to ensure the future of the charity in Devon for generations to come.
