Skate fans are to get a new skate park in Exeter.

A new facility is to be built at Arena Park and skaters are being asked to help choose the design by taking part in an online survey.

The old facility was recently broken up and removed after it had become rotten and dangerous. The Council had been hoping to prolong the life of the old facility but it proved beyond repair.

Cllr Stephen Brimble, Lead Councillor for Place, said: “The old equipment was incredibly well used by skaters from across Exeter and beyond for ten years and proved immensely popular.

“However, nothing lasts forever and the time has come for us to invest in new facilities. We have secured funding for a new skate park and construction of this will start next year. There will be a period of time in between where we are looking at bring in temporary skate equipment for people to use.”

“We’re hoping to get the new facility up and running by the summer and we have already started asking users for their feedback for the design and equipment that will be brought in.”

The Council will be looking to set up a steering group to help inform the design of the facility following feedback from users.
