Halloween is right around the corner on October 31st, and there are plenty of spooky activities in and around Exeter to get your hair standing on end. Of course, if you’re not one who enjoys things that go bump in the night, Exeter also offers some Halloween-related fun that won’t have you sleeping with the lights on.

A great way to get into the Halloween spirit is to go carve your own pumpkin at Powderham Castle. The cost is around £3 per pumpkin, and you’ll receive an entire carving kit and one hour to create a goofy, scary, or fearsome pumpkin that you can take home with you. Just note, you need to book your session ahead of time, and it can fill up quickly. There’s food and drinks available at the welcome centre, and you can even bring your pet along for the adventure.

The city can get a bit crazy on Halloween night, with ghosts and ghouls walking around the streets. Those with a more introverted nature can organise a game night at home. Invite friends over for board games (they can dress up in costumes), or plan a solo night playing your favourite games. A fun option is to play online casino games on platforms based outside the UK. These platforms are not beholden to the UK’s self-exclusion schemes and offer nice bonuses to keep you playing for longer. Or, opt for classic mobile games like Animal Crossing or Candy Crush while binging your favourite scary movie in the background.

If staying home on Halloween doesn’t appeal to you and you want something a bit more lively, you should head over to Fever Exeter. This club will give you an unforgettable Halloween experience. Attendees dress up in fun costumes, and the night is filled with electric music, incredible cocktails, and exciting vibes to keep you dancing into the twilight zone. The club has several booths that you can reserve if you want a more intimate experience with friends, or you can stick to the crowds and catch a breather on the roof terrace when needed.

Crealy Adventure Park and Resort hosts Spook-Fest each year. The adventure park has over 60 rides and attractions that are always available, but the entire space is transformed into a Halloween theme. This year, the Creaky Hotel is returning with more haunted house rooms than before. There is a Scarecrow Scare Maze and Buddy’s Spookl Maze, a Magic Illusion Show that will have you questioning your reality, free pumpkins, and a Trick or Treat Trail where sweet treats can be found.

The Exeter Underground Passages are only for the bravest among us (and those without claustrophobia). These passages were constructed during medieval times to house the pipes that supplied water to the city. A visit to the passages starts with a short film followed by an underground tour. Over Halloween, your tour guide may just tell you of the ghosts that haunt the tunnels, from the children aged around seven who constructed them, to the citizens who hid here during the air raids of WWII.
