A bright green apple appeared in Gandy Street when Exeter independent business The Recycled Candle Company’s latest award arrived at the shop.

The company scooped the award in these greenest of green awards, competing against 500 other entries to win the Sustainable Development category.

Due to the intense demands of candle-making to fulfil wholesale orders in the festive run-up, founders Richard Hills-Ingyon and Sargon Latchin were unable to attend the presentation in London in November. However, they were delighted to receive the iconic trophy in the post.

Richard says “We’ve been working incredibly hard in the run up to Christmas, making thousands of candles, posting orders, serving customers in the shop and at our stall at the Exeter Christmas Market. So when we opened the box, it gave us a real boost.

“It’s great to end the year on such a high and place another trophy on our sales desk – we may have to invest in a trophy cabinet soon!”

The Green Apple Awards are run by the Green Organisation, which has been committed to helping the environment and recognising and rewarding environmental best practice since 1994.
