The Great Devon Landscape Challenge

Devon artist Julie Dunster is challenging you to help her to create a five foot high landscape painting for her upcoming exhibition “A Sense of Devon” which takes place at the Beehive, Honiton from 16th May to 12th June 2017.

She explains, “I feel that memories ‘frame’ our sense of place. Photographs contribute to our memories. So, for this exhibition I am asking the public to donate photos of Devon, to provide a ‘visual memory frame’ for a large semi-abstract painting I created from my own Devon memories. The finished artwork will be donated to a public building in the county, offering a recorded sense of Devon.”

Following last year’s successful landscape exhibition “Definitely Devon” which heralded her first solo exhibition since returning from living in Australia, Julie wants to compare how other people’s memories contribute to their sense of place. Julie’s own Devon memories include painting by the River Culm, when some cows became very interested in her work!

Photos can be dropped in to the Beehive Centre, Dowell Rd, Honiton, The Glorious Art House, Fore St, Exeter, or The Devon Kitchen, High St, Cullompton before 1st May, 2017.
