Free Easter eggs will be handed out to the first 500 children at Exeter Racecourse’s family day which takes place next Tuesday (April 15). Widely regarded as one of the best free days out for children in the Easter holidays, this year the annual event will feature Tractor Ted and his inflatable bouncy castle, as well as the brilliant Kids Love The Races Roadshow.

Three separate zones, Jockey School, Racehorse Zone and Let’s Go Racing, are sure to encourage children to fall in love with the races. A running race down the home straight, questions and answers with the country’s top jockeys, animals to pet from Pennywell Farm, the chance to meet ex-racehorse Korakor, and take part in the RSPB’s interactive stand will all add to the fun.
Future stars of jump racing will be in action when two pony races, which are part of the Charles Owen series, are staged at 12.50pm and 1.20pm.
Sam Twiston-Davies, Harry Derham and Hadden Frost are just a handful of former pony racers who have gone on to become top professional jockeys and racegoers could be cheering on a future champion at the Devon track.
Then the first main race comes under starters’ orders at 2pm with many of the top jockeys’ in action at the Devon track.
General manager Tim Darby said: “It’s such a fantastic raceday with so much for everyone to enjoy, from all the free entertainment for children, to the horse racing. It’s a chance to get out in the fresh air and enjoy and fun and exciting day out.”
A special two for one offer is available on pre booked Grandstand and Paddock, quote FAMILY14 and call the ticket hotline 0844 5793005 or visit www.exeter-racecourse.co.uk for further information. A free bus to the racecourse leaves Exeter St David’s at 12.30pm and Exeter Bus and Coach Station at 12.45pm and returns 30 minutes after the last race.
