The Met Office is warning that areas of heavy rain are likely affect parts of Devon this morning (Monday).

Forecasters say the rain should start clearing by early afternoon, but are warning to be aware of the possibility of localised surface water flooding, as well as minor disruption to road travel and outdoor activities.

The Exeter-based agency’s Chief Forecaster said: A zone of moist, warm air covers the UK at present, and as developments in the Atlantic move northeast, some heavy rain is likely to develop.

“30-40mm of rain could fall locally within around six hours.”

The five day regional forecast is as follows:

Today:
The day will start cloudy with showery rain, probably heavy in places moving eastwards. Through this afternoon the showers will clear away and we will see plenty of warm sunshine to end the day. Maximum Temperature 20°C.

Tonight:
It will be dry tonight with light winds and largely clear skies. It'll be a cooler night, especially in rural areas with a few mist or fog patches forming later. Minimum Temperature 9°C.

Tuesday:
Dry and warm for most with plenty of sunshine to be seen. Cloud will bubble up through the day interrupting the sunshine at times but it will remain dry. Maximum Temperature 21°C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Although there will be some bright interludes on most days it'll often be cloudy with showers, potentially heavy and thundery at times. Breezy on Wednesday. Warm and humid at times.
