Dawlish has been the victim of two fires this week, with firefighters being called to both a car and cafe hut fire on Saturday 26th April.

At 6.27pm last night crews attended an incident on Exeter Road after recieving several calls of a car on fire.

A Dawlish appliance was mobilised. The engine compartment was severely damaged by the fire. The crew used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

Earlier in the day crews were called to Rock Pool Cafe, to put out a fire that was believed to have been started deliberately.

The fire took nearly two hours to extinguish and was so severe the owners feel they will be unable to re-open. Debbie and Don Holman said ( via Facebook):

"Unfortunately we must tell you that because of the nature of the building and its location it was uninsurable and so is a total loss."

Police were unavailable for comment.
