Exmouth’s new Bowling Centre has been given the official seal of approval.

Inspectors from East Devon District Council confirmed last week that all parts of the building have now been finished in line with agreed plans. The bowling area itself opened for business under a temporary building licence at Christmas.

With all agreed building work now complete, the Council will grant the developers Harlequinn Bowling and Leisure Ltd a 125-year ground lease under the terms of a building agreement first drawn up in 2006. This will take place once Western Power completes the formality of taking an electricity sub-station lease, expected imminently.

The Centre’s second floor will become a soft play area for younger children while cafe, restaurant and venue hire facilities are available on the building’s top floor with balcony views looking out over the sea and estuary. Bowling fans have been lining up to go for that elusive Strike since Boxing Day.

“I’m just delighted that the whole Bowling Centre is now finished and ready for action,’ said Cllr Graham Godbeer, EDDC Cabinet Member for Economy. ‘It’s clear that a lot of work has taken place in recent weeks to add the final touches and allow the Centre to open all its doors to the public.

“Residents and visitors alike will have a great time here and I’m sure the Centre will give a huge boost to Exmouth seafront’s year-round economic vitality. Everyone at EDDC wishes it every success for the future.”

Mark Quinn, of Harlequinn Bowling and Leisure Ltd, added: “We were thrilled to be able to open the bowling Centre on 26th December and have already found it to be a phenomenal success, with many families enjoying the delicious bistro style food & bowling.

“We have received lots of positive comments & compliments about the design, style & quality of the building & interior design. Many questions have been asked about the facilities on the other levels.

“On the first floor there will be a huge soft play area for children 12 years & under, incorporating party rooms, an entertainment stage & including a spacious seating area with fantastic views for parents to relax whilst their children play. There will also be a fine dining restaurant & bar with breath taking views. This floor will also include a function room, with its own private bar & balcony, which can be hired for any occasion including corporate events & seminars.

“On the top floor we are excited to offer a beautiful ballroom, suitable for large functions, weddings & any other events. We feel that this is the jewel in the crown, with its sophisticated bar & opulent decor, incorporating two large roof top terraces & a designated bride & groom suite. Coupled with fantastic food, we believe that this will simply be the best venue in the area.”
