Firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from a house in Durham close in Exmouth.

Initially 2 local crews from Exmouth were sent to this incident but when they arrived they found  the ground floor of the property  engulfed in flames and called for further support.

Crews got to work fighting the fire using 2 sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet awaiting the arrival of the third appliance.

Due to further crew power being needed a further fire engine was requested making the total up to 4 fire engines - the last one being sent from Budleigh Salterton.

An Ambulance was called for a woman suffering from smoke inhalation and shock.  A fire emergency support service from Bridgwater was also sent to this incident due to the nature of the fire to support the occupants.

The fire was eventually successfully extinguished using a total of 6 sets of breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets and 2 positive pressure ventilation fans.

It was confirmed that the fire had started by accident in the ground floor utility room destroying it totally
