Exeter Outdoor Store Hosts ‘Basecamp’ advice event to inspire local walkers

On Thursday 22 August 2013, GO Outdoors at Marsh Barton Road in Exeter is hosting its first ever event to inspire and advise local walkers considering charity walking challenges this summer.

The event – called the Basecamp – begins at 7pm and will offer the latest walking insights and equipment to help with safety and success for walkers of all abilities.

The Basecamp event celebrates the store’s participation in the first-ever national Britain on Foot 'Walk the World in 80 Days' challenge (www.gooutdoors.co.uk/80days).

It is hoped that the 80-day challenge will inspire walkers in Exeter and throughout the UK to declare a combined total target distance equivalent to the circumference of the earth – almost 25,000 miles – before it ends on 14 October.

GO Outdoors store manager Andrew Pollard said, "We know all about the enthusiasm for walking in Exeter. That's why we're hosting this event and urging as many customers old and new to find out more about enjoying the challenge of walking this summer. We hope the event will offer just the right balance of advice and inspiration for novices and enthusiasts alike.

“Whether you can make our event or not, we’d encourage all local walkers to declare whatever miles they walk this summer online, and help us reach the combined total.”

The Britain in Foot ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ challenge sees the UK's largest outdoor retailer GO Outdoors link up with outdoor gear manufacturer Mammut; Great Britain’s national mapping agency Ordnance Survey; outdoor charity Mountain Rescue; Switzerland Tourism and Walk4Life.

It’s the first time that the organisations have officially joined forces for the first time to launch the ultimate British Summer walking challenge.
