A property in the Heavitree area of Exeter was badly damaged by fire last night

Fire crews received several calls for a house on fire in Sampsons Lane, shortly after 11pm.

Appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor attended.

On arrival, crews requested for further appliances to be mobilised and confirmed the property was well alight.

Additional appliances were sent from Danes Castle, Topsham and the Incident Command Unit from Honiton.

Fire crews got to work to extinguish the fire using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one main jet.

Two additional fire appliances from Exmouth and Crediton were mobilised 45 minutes later.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said: “Fire crews confirmed this property to measure approximately 20m x 20m and was a two storey property.

“Crews used six breathing apparatus, two main jets, one hose reel jet, one short extension ladder and a thermal imaging camera.

“Three casualties that self rescued suffered from smoke inhalation and were transported to hospital.

“The fire is now extinguished and the cause is believed to be accidental.”
