Students with a love of horse racing are being given the opportunity to become Exeter Racecourse’s official Student ambassador with a series of additional work experience days giving them a leg up in the industry.

The new role, which lasts for the duration of Exeter’s season from October until May, includes placements with various work providers within the industry.

Upon completion, they will be given a reference by Exeter’s general manager Tim Darby and testimonials from each partner who has signed up for the exciting initiative.

As well as Exeter Racecourse, other experience days will be provided by Richard Linley, senior course inspector for the British Horseracing Authority; the British Horseracing Standards and Education Trust; Racenews, which writes and distribute media releases; Racing UK; Tom Malone Bloodstock, David Pipe Racing and jockey Nick Scholfield.

The successful applicant will also be expected to promote racing at Exeter to fellow students.

General manager Tim Darby said: “It’s fantastic that so many people from within the industry have willingly come forward and we hope the initiative will give students a leg up as they embark on their careers once they leave college or university while shouting about racing to all their fellow students.

Ollie McPhail from BHEST said: “It’s a really great idea and we are delighted to be involved. There are so many different aspects to working in the racing industry and this should give the successful applicant a real insight.”

Students wishing to apply to become Exeter Racecourse’ Student Ambassador, should write,  in no more than 400 words, why they think they fit the role, and how you will help promote racing to your fellow students.

Please email Exeter Racecourse’s general manager FAO Tim Darby Exeter@thejockeyclub.co.uk by October 17.
