Last year, Exeter City Council put in a formalplanning permission for a brand-new skate park. Designed to replace the old Arena Park skate park, the site was chosen by pro skaters in the area. Work began in June 2018 and it opened in October 2018, drawing in a vast array of skaters from across the region.

Here, we’ll look at the new park and why it’s caused so much excitement.

Plenty of obstacles to suit all abilities

The new skate park includes plenty of obstacles to suit all abilities. There’s a fab mixture of street obstacles, along with a great wide mini-ramp for those looking to take their skating higher. Kids of all ages can enjoy testing their skills on the quarter pipes, rails, ramps, ledges and flatbanks.

As the park has been designed by pro skaters, you know it’s got everything a skater could possibly want from a skating park. The new park is definitely miles ahead of the old wooden one which once resided on the site. The council have also left it open to be developed further in the future. It’s not just great for skaters either – the park is also aimed at BMX riders too.

A great place for skaters to come together

Skate parks have always been popular with kids, but they did start to lose their popularity when technology came along. Now however, skate parks are coming back, and this new Exeter skate park is sure to inspire other councils around the country to follow suit.

Providing a great place for kids to come together and do something they enjoy, it’s great for encouraging kids to be more social. Parents often struggle to get their kids out of the house these days so skate parks like this one are great for encouraging more outdoor play.

The benefits skating and biking delivers

So, why is this new skate park so exciting for the community? Well, they deliver some pretty awesome benefits. Largely, they do encourage kids to spend more time socialising outdoors. Both skating and biking are great active sports that can not only help to provide your kids with the exercise and fresh air they need, but they can also aid in their development.

So, if you’ve been struggling to get your kids to get outdoors and be more active, why not invest in a scooter or skateboard from a company such as Skatehut

Overall, the new skate park has proven to be a big hit so far with the youth of Exeter. Although some concerns were raised over whether the park would encourage antisocial behaviour, so far it has simply provided a healthy, active and fun social place for kids to gather and burn off steam.
