RSPCA inspectors are investigating after a dog was found dumped with a severely infected ear in Exeter.

The dog warden collected Trixie, who is thought to be a Staffie Sharpei cross, who was left tied up outside the One Stop Shop on Topsham Road. They contacted the RSPCA after she was found to be suffering from a skin condition and a really bad ear infection on September 4.

Trixie is now being treated at an RSPCA centre for her infection and investigations are underway into what happened to her. It is hoped she will make a full recovery and eventually be rehomed.

RSPCA inspector Marije Zwager said: “This poor dog must’ve been in so much pain with this infection when she was found.

“We think she was dumped outside the shop - which is a heartless thing to do especially as she was in so much pain and in desperate need of veterinary care.

“We would just like to ask people in the Topsham Road area if they have ever seen this dog before and if they may know where she has come from.

“It’s important that we find out what happened to her.

“Thankfully at the moment she is doing well with her treatment and is on the mend. This could’ve been a very different ending if she hadn’t have been found.

“At the moment we don’t know how she came to be outside the shop but we would urge anyone who has any information about how she got there or where she came from to contact us as soon as possible on our Inspectorate Appeal Line 0300 123 8018.”
