DEVON folk keen on having a greener Christmas will be able to get more environmentally-friendly fresh trees in time for the festivities from a Christmas tree farm when it officially opens (November 2022).

Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm will officially open on Saturday, November 12 with a limited display of trees and will have a full range available from November 19.

Nick Hendy from Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, which is based at Middle Hill Farm in Langford Budville on the Somerset/Devon border, said: “Devon residents who live near us looking this year for a more sustainable Christmas can keep their tree miles down and carbon footprint to a minimum by buying trees from a producer like us who grows their own trees in the area.

“Another benefit of having a real Christmas tree is that they are much better for the environment, so are perfect for those that want a greener festive season this year.

“Our trees are grown as a field crop so as soon as one is cut, another is planted. Although they aren’t carbon neutral, Christmas trees help to reduce greenhouse gases by absorbing carbon dioxide while they are growing, and once the twelfth night comes, they can be made into chippings or mulch too.

“Being environmentally-sound is getting more and more important and it also has a positive impact on people’s well-being if they feel they are doing the right thing. You also just can’t beat a real Christmas tree, especially the look, texture and smell of it in your home. The ambience it creates is all good for you too as it symbolises positivity, hope and goodwill.

“Our customers tell us all the time how our real trees help alleviate their stress, relax them and increase their general wellbeing at home. People love to look at them, touch and smell them. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that exposure to natural environments has beneficial effects on people. People who live near nature report higher wellbeing and satisfaction with life.

“We can’t wait to see everyone again and feel that festive buzz as people choose their trees and the different decorations for them, it’s always an exciting and magical time.”

The Christmas tree farm will be collecting for Children’s Hospice South West throughout the festive season, last year (2021) it managed to raise £1,828 for the organisation.

CHSW is currently the only provider of specialist hospice care for children in the region. It offers much needed support for youngsters with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition and their families at its three hospices: Charlton Farm in North Somerset, Little Bridge House in North Devon and Little Harbour in Cornwall.

Nick added: “The Crafts at Christmas shop will be fully open from 9am on November 12, with a huge array of decorations and lights as well as wreaths. There will be a limited display of Christmas trees from November 12, with a full range available from Saturday, November 19.

“We will also be hosting some special late-night open evenings where we will be open every weeknight until 8pm from on November 28, 29 and 30 as well as December 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. We will also have some Christmassy entertainment for anyone who decides to visit us on December 1, 2, 8 and 9, which will be announced in due course.”

Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, which is well-known for its home grown, freshly cut Christmas trees, is a family run 40-acre farm that is located close to the nature reserve Langford Heathfield, a mile outside of Langford Budville in Somerset.

It is a family-run farm, owned and run by Reg and his wife Ann and their two sons, Shaun and Nick. The family has been growing and selling Christmas trees for more than 20 years.
