Devon Contract Waste supports Donate IT with ReTech to Empower Young People in Education
Devon Contract Waste (DCW) is excited to launch ReTech, a reuse service taking customers unwanted Laptop’s, Tablets and Smart phones, donating them to people experiencing hardship across Devon.
The service is delivered in partnership with Blackmore who securely remove and prepare all suitable devices for reuse. This initiative will help tackle digital isolation, supporting young people in need, adults who have no way to apply for jobs or undertake everyday digital tasks, homeless people without a phone to contact their friends and family and other groups who are limited in how they engage with the digital world we live in today.
DCW’s ReTech service offers new and existing customers the opportunity to receive a free collection. These devices will then be securely wiped and refurbished by Blackmore before donating them to charitable causes.
“Access to technology is crucial in today’s world. Students need devices to learn, people need devices to apply for jobs, and everyone needs devices to stay in touch with friends and family. We are thrilled to partner with Blackmore and Donate IT to help bridge this gap,” said Grant Scott, General Manager at DCW “This initiative not only promotes sustainability by reusing tech, but it also empowers young individuals to thrive academically by providing them with the necessary tools for their education.”
To kick off the new service, DCW have donated 8 of these reused laptops to SPACE Youth Services just in time for Christmas. They are a youth work charity, supporting young people to release their potential across 7 centres in Devon.
Dan Barton CEO for SPACE said ‘ Space Youth Services is thrilled to have been the first charity to have received laptops as part of Devon Contract Waste's new scheme. Every day our youth workers talk to young people from across Devon who live in hardship, feel isolated and face barriers to learning because they do not have access to the basic technology they need. Being able to give them these laptops is especially impactful at this time of year. We know it will make a huge difference to their lives in so many ways. Thank you Devon Contract Waste and Blackmores'
