On 10th July, The Seaton Care Home, part of independent care provider Southern Healthcare, celebrated ‘International Teddy Bear Picnic Day’ in their newly refurbished courtyard with under 5’s from local nursery Pink Hippo. The children and residents had lots of fun with their cuddly toys and enjoyed scrumptious cakes made by the residents specially prepared in the care home’s kitchen on the morning.

The international event takes place every year on the 10th July and helps to celebrate one of the world’s favourite toys, and has done since 1988.  It’s widely celebrated across the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia and is becoming popular in the UK.

Emma Seal, Home Manager – The Seaton Care Home said: The residents who live with us love to see and hear children.   Knowing that it was ‘International Teddy Bears Picnic Day’ we decided, therefore, to hold a picnic in the home and invite the local nursery, Pink Hippos, to join us. Our objective is to be active members of the local community, and for everyone to have the opportunity to feel part of our family.”  She adds: “Following the success of the teddy bear picnic, The Seaton Care Home is planning further events with the Pink Hippo Nursery, to carry on developing the mutually beneficial relationship, such as our Summer Festival, on 23 August.”

Sue Amato, Nursery Manager - Pink Hippo adds: “We had a lovely sunny afternoon and were so grateful for the hospitality of The Seaton’s residents and wonderful team.  The children were very excited and chatted about it all the way back to Pink Hippo.  We are really looking forward to our next visit to the care home.”
